In a press release published Thursday, the Russian company Kaspersky Labsa explained to have detected, via its protection tools equipping the mail boxes of users, an increase in the number of cyber-attacks on Instagram. The company noted a strong acceleration from the 31 July to the attempts of "phishing" ("phishing" in VF). Their number increased from 150 to almost 600 per day.

most often, the users are abused by an email that appears to come from Instagram and their request to renew their password: they thus give the necessary information to access their account on a page copying one of the social network, which allows us to share photos and videos.
"because of its popularity and number of users, which now exceeds one billion, Instagram has always attracted a lot of fraudsters. Once a criminal has hacked access to an account, he has access to personal data and correspondence of the user," said Kaspersky Labs. On its page facebook, the company states that "according to the victims, once these criminals have hijacked an account, they change the name, the profile picture, the email and the phone number, making it almost impossible to restore access" to the victim.Instagram is investigating this issue
On his blog, the social network announced Tuesday that it was having been alerted to the fact that "some people struggled to access their account", and ensured "investigate this issue". Instagram has also reminded its users that "if you receive an email from us notifying you of a change in your e-mail address and that you have not initiated, please click on the link 'revert this change' and then change your password".

The company also points out the need to choose a complex password combining numbers, letters and punctuation marks, and use the double authentication in order to avoid the acquisition of control by third parties. "Our current system of dual identification allows users to secure their account via a SMS but we are working on developing another feature of dual identification," added the social network.
