Democratic Rifts Out InThe Open In The Wake Of Midterm Election Defeat
Tension Was Seething For A Long Time

There was always muted tension within the ranks of the Democratic Party over theirstrategy and policies. The only difference now is that the differences have started coming out in the open. The reason this is happening is because the leaders of the party are desirous of looking beyond President Barack Obama and finding a solution to the problem that led to the party’s midterm election defeat. This was clear when the President was rebuked publicly by Sen. Chuck Schumer, who criticized him on his health-care overhaul policy of 2010. He said that the focus should have been on the middle classes, and not the uninsured classes.

DemocratsConfused Over Whether To Follow Centrist Message Or Populist Economic Argument

The Democrats also surprised the White House, when they said that they would veto a tax package that both the partieshad wanted earlier. According to them, the package wasonly beneficial for the big corporations. As it is, there is a serious divide on what kind of economic message should be presented to voters before the Presidential race of 2016. The two options before them are a centrist message or a more populist economic argument.

Democrats Take The Place Of Republicans In The Wrong Way

During the last six years, there has been no outward show of disunity in the Democrat camp. That was normally the monopoly of the Republicans. However, in the last few weeks, there has been a noticeable change. As Rep. Jerry Nadler (D., N.Y.) said, “You’re going to get a fight within the Democratic Party,” “There is a substantial disagreement coming up.” This is a new tussle that is likely to overshadowhow the conservative Tea Party wing had clashed with mainstream Republicans in primary contests this year.
