On Thursday, Amazon came out with the announcement that it was launching its new office service called WorkMail. The all new calendar and email service offering by the e-commerce company for the corporate world is meant to compete with the already popular office services Gmail, Google Docs and Microsoft Exchange. The new office feature is slated to cost businesses $4 a month for every user account, and comes with storage space of 50 GB for every user as well as can be combined with Amazon WorkDocs for $6 a month for every user account.
WorkMail to be compatible with all current email services
According to the company, the new email service for the corporate world will be released during the next financial quarter and is being designed to enable professionals to continue their usage of other email services like Apple Mail and Microsoft Outlook. The new service is being reported to be compatible with Microsoft Active Directory. At the same time, it can be accessed from any tablets, smartphones and computer browsers. The data generated will be stored at the company’s very own data centers.

Describing the new office service as more safe than existing cloud services, Peter De Santis, the VP for the computer services arm of Amazon Web Services said, “Customers have repeatedly asked us for a business email and calendaring service that is more cost-effective and simpler to manage than their on-premises solution.” Even though the new software is the company’s a latest entrant into the corporate domain, the e-commerce giant had been offering web services for the past ten years. Amazon Web Services is the most popular mode for businesses to setup their applications and websites without the need to purchase their own servers or data centers.
